主讲人简今/strong>9/span>Dr. Balakrishna Pisupati is an internationally renowned conservation and development specialist with close to three decades of experience working at national, regional and international levels, holding positions such as Vice-Chancellor, TransDisciplinary University (TDU, India), Chief of Biodiversity, Land Law and Governance programmes at United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP, Kenya), Senior Policy Fellow at Fridtjof Nansen Institute (FNI, Norway), Chairman, National Biodiversity Authority-Government of India (NBA, India), Coordinator, Biodiplomacy Programme at United Nations University (UNU-IAS, Japan), Head, Regional Biodiversity Programme for Asia at the World Conservation Union (IUCN, Sri Lanka), Head, Biodiversity and Biotechnology programme at the M S Swaminathan Research Foundation (MSSRF, India). He has advised more than 30 countries on conservation and development policy and served as advisor to international bodies such as China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development, China, the UN Secretary General Task Force on Technology Mechanism, the Global Environment Facility (GEF), World Bank, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and others.
He is an invited Fellow of American Association of Advancement of Science, USA, Fellow of Linnaean Society, London, Fellow of Cambridge Commonwealth Society, Visitor of Minzu University, China, Senior Fellow at UN University, Senior Policy Advisor, Fridtjof Nansen Institute, Norway, Senior Adjunct Fellow at Research Information Systems, a think tank of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government of India and has been a visiting scientist with several universities in UK, Italy, China and Ethiopia and serves two UN Secretary General’s committees in a Honorary capacity.
He has direct work experience in dealing with forest resource management and has worked to establish the CBD programme of work on forest biodiversity, UNEP work related to REDD and issues of bioprospecting and ABS in forestry sector. Recently, he led publication of a guidance document on sustainable use and harvesting that was launched during the CBD SBSTTA 22 meeting held in Montreal, Canada.
With uncommon ability to network at local, national, regional and international levels, Dr. Balakrishna is currently focusing on supporting initiatives that combine human resource development with skill development for sustainability.
